Windform XT. Expensive? No. Here's why
Monday, 19 June 2006
Often one may think that the quality and the innovation have a high price . It’s exactly the opposite.

After 18 months from the launch, the data-file is complete enough to proof how much one can save using WINDFORM™  XT, superior properties material (lab tests per each production batch verify the declared mechanical and thermal properties’ constant value, if well sintered), unquestioned reliable (Certificate of Conformity per each production batch) and with extremely high recyclability compared to standard filled materials for SLS (if well sintered). In particular, this last data, if deeply analysed, brings an incredible money saving, let’s see how.

In order to completely load a 3D Systems SinterStation 2500 Plus / Vanguard it’s necessary more or less 50 Kg of virgin (new) material.

Considering a price of 122 Eu/Kg (WINDFORM™ second canvass 2006 promotion, confirmed for the third canvass 2006 too) and a recyclability of 70% of the overflow powder:

1.    Cost of Material for the first build = 122 Eu * 50 Kg = 6100 Euro (more or less the 40% goes in the overflow device and/or stays in the cartridge)
2.    Cost of Material for the second build = 122 Eu * 60% * 50 Kg + 0 Eu * 40% * 50 Kg = 3660 Euro (there’s not enough “recycled” material to be used for the 70%)
3.    Cost of Material for the third build = 122 Eu * 30% * 50 Kg + 0 Eu * 70% * 50 Kg = 1830 Euro
....

4.    Cost of Material for the tenth build =  122 Eu * 30% * 50 Kg + 0 Eu * 70% * 50 Kg = 1830 Euro

Weight of the loaded material for 10 builds: 500 Kg.

Total cost for 10 machine loadings: 6100+3660+1830*8 = 24400 Euro

Medium cost per Kg to load machines: 24400/500 = 48,8 Euro/Kg

It’s clear that once the process has begun it’s always possible to produce with 70% of recycled material and 30% of new one, and so to load the machines with:

50 Kg * 122 Eu * 30% = 1830 Euro and so 36,6 Euro/Kg.

Minimum cost, maximum performance.

As soon as the pieces sintered in WINDFORM™  XT come out of the machine in fact they are so accurate and made with mechanical precision which make them functional in all aspects. This  is the reason why by now the idea of the simple prototype leaves space for the strength of a part ready to use. With the last Carbon Fibres filled material made for SLS use by C.R.P Technology, the era of Rapid Prototyping is abandoned and we are entering into the era of Rapid Manufacturing.

If you consider that the new WINDFORM™  XT is the most recyclable compound in its category existing on the market today, you will already start to understand the advantages.  It allows a less waste of  material, prolonging the purchase ordering times, and as a consequence lowers the price of the finished product.

Although originally intended for the needs of the racing world, today WINDFORM™  XT is really within the reach of anyone who desires a high performance material without having to increase its internal costs.

Trusting in WINDFORM™  XT, not only you have the assurance of purchasing a product of very high quality, but also to move away from the risk of costly time loss caused by a series of  dispersive operations, as the machine stop to change the material, thanks to the wide applications’ range of this material : WINDFORM™  XT IS GUARANTEED TO AIM FOR A GOAL AND ACHIEVE IT IN A WHILE.

2.    Costo Materiale per secondo build = 122 Eu * 60% * 50 Kg + 0 Eu * 40% * 50 Kg = 3660 Euro (non abbiamo abbastanza materiale "riciclato" per usarlo al 70%)
3.    Costo Materiale per terzo build = 122 Eu * 30% * 50 Kg + 0 Eu * 70% * 50 Kg = 1830 Euro

50 Kg * 122 Eu * 30% = 1830 Euro e cioè 36,6 Euro/Kg.

Costo minimo, massima prestazione.
